Paddeco offers the industry’s only third party accredited qualification specifically designed for those who inspect fire and smoke dampers and carry-out out pre-commissioning checks and tests.

It also offers an additional upskilling route in the decommissioning and the installation of fire and smoke dampers, offering competence and compliance for any renewal work within the ventilation system.

Our GT1F 04 Fire and Smoke Damper Certificate has been accredited by the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 5, meaning job roles:

may involve responsibility for providing a range of routine services for customers or other employees under minimum supervision but normally under guidance. These roles may require the job holder to organise immediate work as an individual or as part of a team and to ensure that it meets agreed objectives or scheduling requirements.”

Why is third party accreditation important? Because it provides the learner with reassurance that the qualification has been independently approved and is being continually monitored by a reliable, independent third party, therefore ensuring the highest standards of content, delivery, service and most of all, value for the learner.

The GT1F 04 has been approved by the SCQF to the equivalent of an SVQ Level 5 and NVQ Level 2, which meets the directive stipulated by the Construction Leadership Council, that the minimum requirement for competence and compliance is a Level 2 qualification.

The qualification has been developed using several NOS (National Occupational Standards), including the BSEHV06, covering inspection and pre-commission activities, and the BSEBSEHV01 for health and safety within the workplace. There are optional units available for progression within the ventilation sector, these include the decommissioning and installation of fire and smoke dampers, aligning to the BSEHV05 and the BSEHV08.

The NOS are the standards that people are expected to meet in their work, now required by law, with clear performance and knowledge criteria to be achieved (the skills and knowledge). The qualification offers the opportunity for people’s knowledge, skills, experience and behaviour (SKEB) to be measured against these standards.

Achievement of this qualification also qualifies the candidate for a CSCS SKILLcard, therefore guaranteeing access to site.
